The Stray Dogs!

In the corner of the pavement lying lazily with alert conscience,
Staring at each hastening passer-by,
I can’t speak what they understand,
But I wished they read my pleading eyes.
I have been hungry since past two nights,
nibbling over the dry hard bread crumbs I stole from the garbage dump.
I bark at the vendors around-
hoping to get something to survive.

That little girl who share her glass of milk with us,
Hasn’t yet arrived.
Heard her wailing after she went back last time.
Her Mom might have thought us as a dangerous species.
Wish that old man be blessed always-
who brings for us brand new loaves of bread each day.

I have a family here in locality,
My tiny puppies frolicking in the safe surroundings of trees.
Adjusting in the world they just arrived into-
Happy to run around round and round.
Wagging  their tail and following each passer by up to a few steps.
Enchanting them with their cuteness and friendly barks,
no one can stop smiling on seeing their energetic happiness.
They are naïve and run behind speeding machines.
Their mommy blind in love run behind barking to scare the machines.

Hungry, Tired, Angry of the fate,
One day it bite the veggie seller,
And another day a middle aged labor.
Freaking out when assuming some threat,
The people curse us and there grows the protest.

We envy the pampered pug that comes each day,
With its leash in the hands of a pretty girl,
Who calls it aloud with a fuzzy name- ‘Poco’
Each day it smells of delicious food served,
And bark on us as if it’s all his own state.

There come some other gangs on the roads we stay,
A big fight then takes place,
Finally we win- but it feels like hell to fight with our own mates.
Pups are growing and they might learn all the bad things.

It’s all good as we sleep, eat, bark, fight and make merry each day!
Forgetting what’s in future- we are the kings of this place.

A nightmare it occurred when someone hit the whitey baby one day with a big ball-
It was just two months old-
Weakest of all- it wailed all night.
The chill of night it couldn’t survive.
Mommy doggy cried for days,
Time healed and a few bites that added to revenge.

Forgotten of the loss- all four pups we have to care for.
So kind of that girl who brings for them varieties of baby food easy for them to chew.
Growing up and out on the roads they ran-
Carefree, inexperienced and unknown of the machines that ran.

In the dark of the night while it was playing,
A drunken man on that speeding machine-
Ran over the tiny black baby.
It shouted, cried with unbearable pain- but no one came to help.
All its red liquid leaked out,
And lost another of our love again.
Mommy doggy cried for days.
Fierce it grew and thirsty for human blood that killed.
Never could that slayer be caught,
But each human on machine we hated alike.

Still we had the three gems to stay,
But all got scared of what’s in their fate.
We got careful for them more than ever.
Wherever the tiny ones strolled out
a big one always accompanied them around.

Unbelievable again it was the black day-
Again the deadly machine ran over the tiny blacky.
Its head got split in pieces,
And this time too couldn’t stop the devastation.
What’s the fate they brought with them?
Death’s being following them like a ghost around.

Like all the times the mommy dog carried the corpse
in its mouth wherever it went,
sleeping with the corpse and hiding it at places-
believing that soon there will be magic,
the baby will wake up and will run around frolicking.

At the end of four months just one whitey left with us-
All day lying listless on the mosaic pavement-
Those kind beings throwing the crumbs of food-
Observing our pitiful condition.

Dwelling hope on that one pearl of our eyes.
That machine came again and then mommy doggy ran to catch it this time.
 It sped away and yet another day appeared back again.
Each day fearing that the one whitey left might not be eloped with death.

That’s what the will of stars-was
That machine ran over the whitey one again.
Finished the family and filled in us the remorse, the curse, the disdain.

Strange to know humans are grave heartless beings.
Taking away life for their own thirst of blood or was it some kind of fun.
That girl and the old man still brings us the food,
Getting misty at times- remembering the naughty deeds of our fools.
The mommy dog all lost in the memories of the young babies slept to death.
Cries all night and awaits death.

On one fun day! :'(
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In memory of all my little cutnessess on whom had posted previously too.
Just in four- five months all got crushed to death.
On same road, in a similar way.
God knows who that biker was who committed the crime all the times on the little beings who can’t even voice their feelings, he will surely be punished..
And as I walk in the park each time the memories flood back, of those special stray puppies who loved me a lot- and whom I couldn’t love enough to be able to save them from dying.
The time when they couldn’t eat anything- serving them milk in tiny plastic bowls and the naughty ones just spread it all on the floor and licks it- while the bowl use to be taken away for licking in the corner by some other naughty puppy.
Whenever I stand on the door- somehow they just get to know I was there and came running, putting their tiny mouth inside...
When I open the door all running inside to claim it as their own place to hide...licking my toe or biting on the flip flops...
Or when sitting with them, rising up the paw to make a handshake..
At times wished to make a little bed for them, but was scared what it their mommy doggy bite me too for it might think that am encroaching its babies....
They were growing up now- thin, choosy and loved being pampered- just like teenagers in humans..and numerous such fleeting memories....
May their souls rest in peace, and may they be reborn at safe places- and not as stray, with such dark fates. . . . .
And their mommy doggy gets to be closer to normal again. . . .
